Summary note
Like most of William Darton's works, this contains a mixture of information, moral teaching and cautionary tales. The virtues of milk are stressed on the first two pages, and elsewhere the danger of fire and of drowning. Some of the engravings of animals are copied from Bewick's Quadrupeds ... The full-page engraving of peacocks is copied from Bewick's British birds which was first published earlier the same year, 1797.--Darton.
