Notes
  • Cover title.
  • This typographic fairy tale is also issue 14/15 of Merz, which Kurt Schwitters published sporadically between 1923 and 1932.
  • Schwitters, who was an influential figure in the Dadaist movement and credited as the founder of modern collag, is perhaps best known for "Merz," a word he coined in 1919 and used to describe his total artistic output, including collage, assemblages, sculptures, drawings, prints and typography, which he constructed from waste and other sorts of non-traditional materials. Between 1922 to 1930, Schwitters's work was significantly influenced by the Russian Constructivist and the Dutch De Stijl movements, and Die Scheuche reflects his interests during this period.
