Notes
Printer from t.p. verso.
"The whole designed by R.R., and engraved by Charles Knight"--At foot of plate [1].
The "identity of R.R. is uncertain," according to Moon, but she suggests R. Ransom and Richard Roe as possibilities (cf. Moon, p. 101).
Preface, explaining goals and methodology, and Notes, explaining letter sounds, precede alphabet rhyme and plates.
Illustrations: 25 colored plates depicting children presenting alphabet letters in sign language (with A and B together on one plate), beneath an ongoing alphabet rhyme, surrounded by labels showing the letters in Roman, italic, script, Black Letter, and Fractur fonts; the last plate shows all the alphabet letters on tiles, accompanied by a six-line conclusion to the rhyme.
Cotsen copy: Thomas Gaisford's printed pictorial bookplate on front pastedown.
Cotsen copy: "Maxwell Hunley Bookshop, July 2, 1964--Inscribed on "Ex Libris, Marguerite Knapp" printed bookplate on front free endpaper.
Cotsen copy: lacks wrappers with publisher's advertisements on lower (cf. Moon).
Binding note
Later brown half morocco over marbled paper boards by Kaufman; red marbled endpapers.
