Notes
Title and imprint from front wrapper.
"Price sixpence"--At foot of upper cover.
Hand-colored illustrations above printed verse and two lines of text on each page.
Date range based on publisher's address and form of name, (cf. Hall & Muir Conjuring books 1800-1850 and Brown, London publishers and printers, p. 55).
Each leaf is illustrated with a picture of Mary, with a cut-out hole where the face should be, through which the face printed on the last leaf can be seen. Thus, as the pages are turned, Mary appears in different costumes.
Cotsen copy: Inscribed on front wrapper: "Marie S. Scott, May 19th, 1851."
Binding note
Pub. yellow pictorial wrappers printed in black with publisher's advertisement for Uncle Buncle series (printed vertically) on lower wrapper.
Source acquisition
Cotsen copy: Diana Rexford Tillson Collection, the gift of Lloyd E. Cotsen '50.
