Abenaki Spelling Book.
ANS Boston Jany 15 1831 concerning the book, signed "J-- Pickering" laid in at front of copy 1; ownership "Francis Lieber" on blank facing title, and stamp of New York Mercantile Library on title.
Copy 2 lacking calendar. Insc on f. pastedown "Abenaki Learning Book. This book was prepared to learn the Evabanaki or St. Francis Indians the English Language. Awighigan means written or printed paper or book and Kimzowi means learning -- ie Learning Book. It was prepared and the vocabulary made by Peter Ousunkeri who was Educated at Moores Charity School Hanover, NH, he was from the St. Francis tribe."
