    • Elaborately illustrated and ornamented by the talented student, including a portrait, presumably of his Schoolmaster Joseph Shallis, aged 25 on l. 84. Many typical ornaments: angels, control of pen exercises terminating in grotesques, historiation of capitals, but also drawings of the Emperor of Germany and the King of Poland, a charming illustration of a cat playing the fiddle as mice dance "The cat doth play and after slay...", a hedgehog, heraldic dolphins "naiant" and "ludent", a cameleopard and a goat, as well as a variety of elaborately knotted and interlaced initials. On leaf 34 is a tribute to King George I.
    • Entertaining mnemonic verses for some of the operations.
    Binding note
