Ms. Psalter-hours, written and illuminated in Germany, probably in Mainz.
Notes
  • Layout: Parchment; 18 lines in one column; 143 x 105 (88 x 55) mm.
  • Decoration: 1-line initials, alternately red and blue, at beginning of verses. 2-line gold initial with fine pen decoration in red, sometimes incorporating a face, at beginning of psalms. 9-line decorated initial, with partial foliate border, for prayer to Christ, Gratias tibi. 10-line decorated initial, with partial foliate border, for Litany. 15 decorated initials of 12 lines or more, with partial foliate borders, for the main psalms, Office of the Dead, Matins of the Hours of the Virgin, Prayers to the Virgin, "Saluto te," "O Domina mea," "Sancta Maria," Prayer to God, "Adonay domine deus," Suffrages to Barbara and Nicholas. 4 full-page miniature with foliate borders. The 16 large decorated initials are all based on designs found in the "Göttingen Model Book," with similar floreate patterns, checked backgrounds and coloring ideas.
