  • Princeton copy 2: The classic tale of three brothers, two of whom are evil and come to their just end, while their good and selfless brother is finally rewarded. This is considered one of the earliest English fantasies written expressly for children. Ruskin wrote this tale originally in 1841, supposedly on a dare, for the twelve-year-old Euphemia Grey, whom he later married. The book was an immediate success upon publication, going through three printings in the first year.
  • Princeton copy 2: In the first two printings, the nose on the character South West Wind was drawn bugle-like, but this was thought to be objectionable, and so Doyle redrew the nose for the third printing and the text was changed accordingly.
