    Summary note
"The book is not a systematic illustrative sequence [...] it is like a collage capturing the atmosphere of Váchal's memories. It presents a good amount of new information from the artist's personal life, about his relatives and friends, found in various estates in both major state institutions and private collections, as well as in registers and police records, and last but not least, in recorded interviews with Josef Váchal and his contemporaries, given to Czech radio. The book is inspired by a fragment of Váchal's notebook, which he maintained from 1905 to 1911 and filled with clippings of correspondence, photographs, cards, scraps, drawings, poems, and other material"--page 375.
