Binding note
ExI copy bound in 15th cent., pigskin over boards, blind stamped, including the name-stamp (schriftband) 'Meister.' Johannes Meister was active in the booktrade in Basel.
  • ExI copy has inscription on front free endpaper noting donation from Hilprand Brandenburg of Biberach. Evidence of removal of his bookplate present on front free endpaper. Ms. note at head of front free endpaper: Ti[tulus] fortalicium fidei / Contentum. Ms. note mid-page on front free endpaper: Liber Cartusiensis in Buchshaim prope Memmingen proueniens a confratre nostra domino Hilprando Brandenburg de Bibraco, donato sacerdote, contines librum, fortalicium fidei nuncupatum. Oretur pro eo et pro quibus desiderauit.
  • ExI copy has stamp of Carthusian monastery of Buxheim on first leaf. Shelfmark on spine is E 307.
  • The Carthusian convent of Buxheim was dissolved in 1803 and the books became the property of Graf von Ostein, passing to his sister, Gräfin von Hatzfeld, in 1809, and then to their cousin, Graf Friedrich Karl Waldbott von Bassenheim, in 1810; the books were finally sold in 1883 by Graf Hugo von Waldbott-Bassenheim (1820-1895) [auction at Carl Förster, Munich, 20 Sept. 1883].
