Arrangement

Summary note
Consists of more than 9,000 playbooks, primarily 19th-century English publications, although there are some foreign playbooks, mainly in French. Box 182 consists of 54 microfilm reels of promptbooks of Shakespeare's plays in the Playbooks Collection, which are described in Charles Harlen Shattuck's "The Shakespeare promptbooks" ((F) 3925.92355).
Cumulative index/Finding aid
An author and title index is available. This index is on 3x5 cards filed in one alphabet. The cards are in about 15 drawers in the catalog card cabinets once situated in the 2nd floor Firestone rooms for the Theatre Collection. As of January 2007, the cabinets are in the C floor vault.
Individual catalogue records have been made for the playbooks in boxes 1-181, which include promptbooks and partbooks, as well as rehearsal and association copies. A subsequent project will address the microfilm reels in Box 182.
