Deals with the ideology and cult of the mother-tongue, which in Nazi Germany was no less important than the cult of race. For the Nazis, language embodied the cultural and ethical values of the people and served as a boundary protecting them from assimilation. In the framework of this theory, Jews were a special case because they were regarded as lacking a sense of loyalty to their mother-tongue and having survived due to their uniquely strong racial instinct. Moreover, they seemed to constitute a threat to the German people because they lacked a healthy relationship with the German language and were bearers of universalizing ideologies, dangerous in the post-Versailles world. Dwells on German scholarship on the Yiddish language before 1945, especially on the views of two scholars - Lutz Mackensen and Peter-Heinz Seraphim - for whom Yiddish served as a demonstration of Jewish racial alienation and linguistic perversity. |c(From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism). 650 0 Linguistics |zGermany |xHistory |y20th century. 650 0 National socialism. 650 0 German language |xPolitical aspects. 650 0 Yiddish language |xPolitical aspects. 650 0 Racism in language. 650 6 Linguistique |zAllemagne |xHistoire |y20e siècle. 650 6 Nazisme. 650 6 Allemand (Langue) |xAspect politique. 650 6 Yiddish (Langue) |xAspect politique. 650 6 Racisme dans le langage. 650 7 National Socialism. |2aat 650 7 German language |xPolitical aspects. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00941676 650 7 Language and languages |xPolitical aspects. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00992197 650 7 Linguistics. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00999202 650 7 National socialism. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01033761 650 7 Racism in language. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01086654 650 7 Yiddish language |xPolitical aspects. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01182809 650 17 Taalwetenschap. |2gtt 650 17 Nationaal-socialisme. |2gtt 650 7 LINGUÍSTICA HISTÓRICO-COMPARATIVA |zALEMANHA. |2larpcal 650 7 LÍNGUA IÍDICHE (ASPECTOS POLÍTICOS) |2larpcal 650 7 RACISMO. |2larpcal 650 7 Linguistics |zGermany |y20th century. |2nli 650 7 National socialism. |2nli 650 7 German language |xPolitical aspects. |2nli 650 7 Yiddish language |xPolitical aspects. |2nli 650 7 Racism in language. |2nli 651 0 Germany |xLanguages |xPolitical aspects. 651 7 Germany |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01210272 |1https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtCD3rcKcPDx6FHmjvrbd 651 7 Germany |xLanguages |xPolitical aspects. |2nli 655 7 History. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01411628 648 7 1900-1999 |2fast 830 0 Routledge studies in the history of linguistics ; |v1. 911 19990225 912 19990217000000.0 914 (OCoLC)ocm38520156 |bOCoLC |cmatch |d20240605 |eprocessed |f38520156 998 02/17/99 |s9110 |nNjP |wDCLC9813546B |d02/17/99 |cARK |bARK |i990217 |lNJPG
