Each plate accompanied by leaf of descriptive letterpress consisting of English translation of the Chinese captions and notes.
The plates are a reproduction of a pictorial work circulated in Hunan Province with the purpose of enflaming hatred against foreigners and the Christian religion. The authorship is attributed to Zhou Han, a native of Ningxiang.
