Adopting a 'life course' approach, the book explores the social, economic, and cultural contexts of romantic partnerships, from courtship through to marital or family dissolution. Drawing from a wide range of sources that capture official accounts and discourses on the one hand, and the testimony and experience of working-class people on the other, the book offers a uniquely broad and textured view of courtship and marriage in this period.</dc:description><dc:date>2025</dc:date><dc:publisher>Oxford : Oxford University Press, [2025]</dc:publisher><dc:publisher>©2025</dc:publisher><dc:subject>Courtship—Scotland—History—19th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Courtship—Scotland—History—20th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Marriage—Scotland—History—19th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Marriage—Scotland—History—20th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Divorce—Scotland—History—19th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Divorce—Scotland—History—20th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Working class—Scotland—History—19th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Working class—Scotland—History—20th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Scotland—Social conditions—19th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Scotland—Social conditions—20th century</dc:subject><dc:type>Book</dc:type><dc:identifier>9780191831157</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>9780192506320</dc:identifier></oai_dc:dc>
