Summary note

Edict issued by Cardinal Giovanni Francesco Banchieri orders Jews to supply 40 men to accompany soldiers to the location of a fire, while other soldiers will control the Ghetto. If the fire is too big, the lieutenant can request more Jewish men. If the fire occurs on Saturday or a Jewish holiday, Jews can refuse to participate, but will have to pay for surrogates. Ferrara, 14 May 1754.
