This book adopts an actor-centered approach in the study of democratization and places civil society as the focus of the analysis. The OCLP campaign was an attempt to transfer leadership of democratization from political parties to civil society, while the incorporation of Deliberation Days further let ordinary participants decide on the electoral proposals. The democratic ideals of civil society activists and the mobilization of radical democrats led the campaign to enter a radical position. The Chinese government interpreted democratization in Hong Kong from a regime security perspective and took a hardliner position. After the Occupy Movement finally occurred, the leadership of civil society and the conception of civil disobedience contained the radical protesters. However, after the movement, civil society organizations were blamed for its failure, and contention in Hong Kong became more transgressive and decentralized. A valuable resource for scholars of Hong Kong's Politics and a relevant case study for those studying the dynamics of social movements and the civil society strategy in democratic transition"-- |cProvided by publisher. 504 Includes bibliographical references and index. 505 0 The initiation of the OCLP campaign -- Preference formation in the occupy central : the DDays -- The showdown over election framework -- The outbreak of the occupy movement -- The dynamics of the occupy movement. 650 0 Occupy movement |zChina |zHong Kong. 650 0 Protest movements |zChina |zHong Kong. 650 0 Social movements |zChina |zHong Kong. 650 0 Political participation |zChina |zHong Kong. 651 0 Hong Kong (China) |xPolitics and government |y1997- 650 6 Mouvement des indignés |zChine |zHongkong. 650 6 Mouvements sociaux |zChine |zHongkong. 650 6 Participation politique |zChine |zHongkong. 651 6 Hongkong (Chine) |xPolitique et gouvernement |y1997- 776 08 |iOnline version:Yang, Shen (Assistant professor). |tRethinking the occupy movement in Hong Kong |dAbingdon, Oxon ; New York, NY : Routledge, 2024 |z9781003380238 |w(DLC) 2024008147 830 0 Routledge contemporary China series 910 |cD0703mon |d3110-10 |gYBP 960 |o1 |zUSD 961 |fJDD |m311010 |nCloth 980 20683928 |i170.00 982 |cf 984 20241209 |b090620 |cYBP-US
