Summary note
The 2019 Dresden Music Festival (Dresdner Musikfestspiele) welcomes star bass René Pape for an exquisite concert dedicated to the work of Weber, Schubert, and Schumann, filmed at the Kulturpalast (the historical Palace of Culture, whose 2017 reopening concert is also available to watch in our catalogue!). The theme for this year's festival is Visions, brought to life by the Festspielorchester and renowned conductor Ivor Bolton with a refined and masterfully executed program performed on period instruments: Weber's Euryanthe Overture gives way to Schubert's Prometheus, which leads into two of Schubert's most poignant love letters to music itself: Schwanengesang (Swan Song) and An die Musik (To Music). Schumann's "Spring" Symphony closes the program, the composer's first triumphant addition to the genre following his wife Clara's encouragement to bring his grand ideas to a full orchestra.
