Summary note
During this concert in 2017 on Danish Radio, the National Vocal Ensemble of Denmark perform a selection of nostalgic pieces from a collection of cinematic masterpieces. The elegant staging helps each of the artists shine brightly as they perform: the choir is positioned behind Janne Fredens on cello, Søren Rastogi on piano, and Anders Banke on clarinet, saxophone, and melodica who, in turn, intertwine their own musical phrases with those from the choir's soloists. The ensemble joins forces with the choir throughout the evening to present cinematic musical themes by Charlie Chaplin, Leonard Bernstein, Ross Parker, Pietro Garinei, Eden Ahbez, John Barry, as well as baroque composers such as Pergolesi with the overture to his Stabat Mater accompanied by a velvety solo clarinet, and Handel whose own themes greatly inspired cinematic composition.
