Summary note
The 2023 edition of the illustrious Lucerne Festival is in full swing! In this incredible program maestro Paavo Järvi and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra are joined by contralto Wiebke Lehmkuhl to take on Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 3, a truly larger-than-life masterwork that spans six movements and over 100 minutes of music. Mahler's longest symphony recounts the story of the Creation and calls for a children's choir, a women's choir, and several dozen instrumentalists. The ethereal opening measures give way to a series of lively contrasting movements, culminating in a final ode to divine love that is perhaps unmatched in its emotional intensity.
