A manuscript of the religious harlequinade “The beginning, progress, and end of man” in four folded leaves, with the subjects Adam, the lion, the boy, and the man. Oriented vertically rather than horizontally as is more common for this moveable format. The verso of the lower flap on the final leaf has in red and black: “Painted by Salathiel Court it must be no jest/ You see it is signed with Probatum Est.”Numerous contemporary signatures throughout: Ann Dixon on the front wrapper; Robt. Tingley[?] on the inside of the front wrapper; Mr. Edwd Dixon [illegible syllable]lands Hexhamshire Northumberland; John Dixon, Hannah Dixon Hallerstead, James Bell, James Parker. Extensive homemade repairs reattaching the flaps to the main sheet. Some detached. Bound vertically in a folder of thick light brown paper. Identical to the binding of Michael Bell’s manuscript harlequinade (the two were purchased together).
