Summary note
"Finnegans Wake is a novel by James Joyce, written in 1939. It is considered one of the most complex books in English literature, as well as being unique in its experimental writing style. The purpose of the work is to visually display this complexity. Using a classic 1965 edition by Faber and Faber, the book was disbound, woven and rebound, respecting the original order of the pages and preserving the same cover"--From artist's statement.
Notes
Four volumes laid in matching flapped slipcase.
Title from inner slipcase flap.
Edition of 300 copies signed and numbered by the artist.
Facsimile of the artist's unique altered and knitted edition of James Joyce's complex, experimental classic 'Finnegans wake.' In the process of creating it, Ximena Pérez Grobet had the work carefully documented, leaf by leaf, volume by volume, with the goal of making the monumental project more accessible to a broader audience. The facsimile edition embodies as much as can be captured of the original, maintaining the four volumes (mirroring Joyce's sections) and housed in a pictorial flapped slipcase, the inner flap of which contains a printed description of the project.
