The saturation of colors draws the eye to the portraits of the Payasos Danzantes (the Dancing Clowns) of Coatepec (Veracruz), made by Luján Agusti (Puerto Madryn, Argentina, 1986). Behind the costumes and masks of these curious characters who participate in the religious festivals of the town, the photographer placed equally striking fabrics, similar to those they themselves use to make their costumes. This Veracruz series has awarded Agusti the Women Photograph, that recognizes the work of women around the world dedicated to documentary photography. Agusti plans to continue his research on Mexican syncretism with projects in Oaxaca, Michoacán, and Sonora. He will continue in Mexico, he said, because it seems to him a country very rich in history, culture and traditions. "In Argentina, most people are Catholic, but religion is not so present. In Mexico you find it all the time: everyone has had some paranormal experience. That captivated me a lot".
