Curated by Gloria Cortés Aliaga and Eva Cancino Fuentes, "Luchas por el Arte" is a curatorial exercise that attempts to highlight the associative networks and multiple nodes that gave rise to the arts system in Chile in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. The title of the exhibition takes as a reference and replicating the title of the book published by Alberto Mackenna Subercaseaux in 1915, comprising works from the MNBA collection to show from a critical perspective the plots, affiliations, circulations and struggles for institutionalization of the arts in Chile. "The exhibition thus constitutes the first conceptual proposal to think of a new permanent museographic script for the museum's collection, based on the triad INSTITUTIONALITY / TEACHING / WRITING in the voices of its protagonists." --translated from page [11].
