Summary note
A file of documents concerning agriculture in Poland. Subjects discussed in the file include a speech given by the First Secretary of the Polish United Workers' Party (P.Z.P.R.), Edward Gierek, at the eleventh plenum of the P.Z.P.R. Central Committee -- the possible provision of grain credits to Poland by the U.S. -- Polish state investments in agriculture -- a delay in the harvest of grain -- meat supplies in Poland -- and an invitation for the Polish Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Stefan Zawodziński, to visit Britain. Other subjects discussed in the file include the introduction of a new pension scheme for Polish farmers -- the response by farmers to this scheme, including milk strikes and refusals to pay contributions to the pensions fund -- and the response of the Polish government to these protests.
