Summary note
A file containing documents concerning Allied policy on Berlin air services. Subjects covered in the file include a dispute over flights between Berlin and Turkey for migrant workers, which involved the Turkish airline Türk Hava Yolları and several other operators -- an attempt by Air Berlin to delete "U.S.A." from its name -- a hardening of Soviet attitudes towards unusual air traffic to and from West Berlin -- and plans by DirectAir to start new services between West Berlin and several smaller airports in West Germany. Other subjects discussed in the file include the rejection of a proposal for standby fares on the route between Berlin and Hanover -- a reorganisation of British Airways, which affected their Berlin services -- the increasing number of Western destinations served from Schönefeld, the airport of East Berlin -- and plans by the West German government to phase out subsidies for air services between Berlin and West Germany.
