Summary note
A file containing the annual review of West Berlin for 1981 by the British military commandant, David Mostyn. Subjects covered in the review include the city's being remarkably sheltered from external political events -- a reduction in visits to East Germany from the city following new East German currency regulations -- the collapse of the city's governing coalition and the appointment of a new governing mayor, Richard von Weizsäcker -- the growth of a pacifist movement -- a lean year for the city's economy -- unrest caused by a militant squatters' movement -- and an excellent year for British relations with West Berlin, featuring several high-profile visitors. Also included in the file is a covering note from the British ambassador in Bonn, John Taylor -- and a calendar of key events in West Berlin during the year.
