Summary note

A file of correspondence and reports concerning British public reaction to the political situation in Poland. The documents include enquiries from M.P.s on behalf of their constituents on the policy of the British government towards the Polish regime following the imposition of martial law -- concerns over the distribution of food and humanitarian aid supplied to Poland by Britain and the European Economic Community -- and concerns over the welfare of an imprisoned academic, Andrei Wiszniewski. Other documents in the file cover requests for the waiving of postal charges for relief packages to Poland -- requests for assistance in obtaining inheritances from Polish bequests -- and enquiries on the use of passports when travelling to Poland. The file also includes petitions urging the British government to take action against the Polish regime -- lists of Polish nationals who have been interned -- and appeals on behalf of persecuted Christians in the Soviet Union.
