Summary note
A file containing documents concerning diplomatic relations between Western countries and Warsaw Pact countries after the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia. The file includes a discussion of a Foreign Office instruction that diplomatic officials should decline invitations to attend Soviet receptions in response to the invasion of Czechoslovakia -- a letter from the British ambassador to Moscow reporting that he attended a reception held in honour of the astronaut Georgii Beregovoi -- and a letter from a British M.P. suggesting that British officials boycott Soviet events. The file also includes a note from the British embassy in Bonn reporting that attendance by foreign diplomats at a Soviet embassy party in Bonn was low -- a record of a Parliamentary Question asking whether British officials had attended Soviet national holiday receptions -- and a discussion of whether officials from Warsaw Pact countries should receive annual Christmas cards from the British prime minister.
