Summary note
A file of correspondence and reports concerning anniversary celebrations in Bulgaria. The documents cover events marking the thirtieth anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany, which included widespread media publicity, ceremonial meetings, receptions, and wreath-laying ceremonies -- and the accompanying propaganda campaign, which sought to highlight the decisive role played by the Soviet Union, and which later paid some recognition to the role of Western forces. Further commentary covers the alleged falsification of history by local Bulgarian commentators -- and the attendance of British, French, and U.S. representatives at the wreath-laying ceremony.
