Summary note
A file of correspondence and reports concerning Albanian relations with Yugoslavia. The documents cover economic and political relations between the two countries -- indications that Albania has concluded that China cannot be relied on as a lone source of aid -- developments in Yugoslav tourism in Albania, including criticism of the activities of the Albanian secret police -- and the signing of a trade agreement between the two countries. Further commentary notes the interest of Yugoslav enterprises in developing trade -- and suggests that the failure of Albania's third five-year plan has led the country's leaders to seek relations with countries besides China. The file also includes media reports on Albania, discussing criticism of the country's novelists -- the observations of tourists -- accusations of espionage against Yugoslavia and Italy -- and a press campaign against bureaucracy, which has resulted in the transfer of many administrative staff to direct production.
