Summary note
A file of correspondence and reports concerning Czechoslovak relations with West Germany. The documents cover negotiations on trade and on the opening of a West German trade mission in Prague, which are being hampered by the "Berlin Clause", which concerns the de jure rights of West Germany to West Berlin. Further documents cover press reports conveying the Czechoslovak attitude to the talks and to West Germany, with reference to political relations, the Munich Agreement of 1938, and West Berlin. The file also includes details of a speech by Dr. Alois Neuman, the Czechoslovak Minister of Justice, on the prosecution and punishment of war criminals. The speech discussed a review of Nazi files left behind in Czechoslovak territory, and criticised the attitude of West Germany, which was accused of using the statute of limitation to avoid the prosecution of war criminals.
