Summary note
A file of correspondence and reports concerning relations between Albania and the United Kingdom. Subjects covered include the planned expansion of British tourism to Albania -- and the question of British diplomatic representation in Albania. Further commentary discusses the current informal arrangement whereby the French represent British interests in Albania -- and the possibility of establishing a more formal scheme to cover accidents, deaths, illnesses, and the detention of British nationals in Albania. The file also covers appeals from William Bland of the Albanian Society, who is seeking to encourage the reestablishment of Anglo-Albanian cultural and political ties -- the settlement of a dispute over gold recovered after the Second World War that was attributed to Albania, but claimed by Britain as compensation for the Corfu Channel Incident of 1946 -- and the British government's explanation for why diplomatic relations cannot be resumed at this time.
