Summary note
A file of correspondence and press material concerning broadcasting in Czechoslovakia. The documents discuss the Czechoslovak government's introduction of a new television programme in which leading Czechoslovak politicians were asked questions telephoned to them by members of the public -- and the "dismal end" to which the programme came, as the politicians in question were "quite inexperienced in this kind of technique". The documents also cover the airing of a new television programme in which three Czechoslovak politicians were interviewed by representatives from leading Czech and Slovak newspapers -- and the British observation that several of the more pertinent questions asked during the programme were left unanswered by the politicians, which "defeated the whole object of the programme". Other documents in the file include a report summarising this television programme -- and the transcript of a talk given on the B.B.C. World Service criticising the Czechoslovak regime.
