Summary note
A file of correspondence and reports concerning the population of Bulgaria. The documents cover the preliminary results of the 1966 Bulgarian census, which revealed an increase in the general population of just over eight percent in the last ten years. Further statistics divide the population into town- or village-dwellers and inhabitants of urban settlements, revealing a drift away from the countryside since the last census in 1956. Information is provided on the populations of the provinces -- and the distribution of age groups across the nation, revealing a fall in the number of under-fifteens, and a rise in the number of men over sixty and women over fifty-five. The file also includes tables of statistics in French.
