Summary note
A file of correspondence, press material, and Parliamentary Questions concerning the case of Karel Janoušek, the leader of the Royal Air Force's Czechoslovak squadrons during the Second World War, who was imprisoned by the Czechoslovak regime upon the communist seizure of power in 1948. The documents discuss a visit to Prague by a journalist from the Sunday Express to interview Janoušek -- and the failed attempts of the British Embassy in Prague to prevent this interview from occurring, as its publication could harm Janoušek, who is living in "squalid" conditions six years after his release from prison. The documents also cover the Royal Air Force Association's decision to take advantage of a recent surge in public interest created by the Sunday Express article, and invite Janoušek to visit Britain. Other documents comment on Janoušek's view that his British visit went "very well indeed" -- and the possibility of the Czechoslovak regime politically rehabilitating Janoušek.
