Summary note
A file of correspondence and reports concerning relations between Albania and China. Subjects covered include the visit of Mehmet Shehu, the Chairman of the Albanian Council of Ministers, to Peking, where he was welcomed by large crowds, held talks with leading politicians, and attended banquets and rallies. A joint statement issued at the end of the visit covered the "revisionist" policies of the Soviet Union -- the Twenty-third Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union -- U.S. actions in Vietnam -- mass killings of communists in Indonesia -- the role of the United Nations -- and measures taken by both China and Albania to counter the resurgence of revisionism and the restoration of capitalism. The file also covers further visits by Albanian delegations to China -- an article published in the Yugoslav press about a possible divergence of Albanian-Chinese views -- and the fifth Albanian party congress, as seen through the eyes of the Chinese.
