Summary note
A file containing documents relating to the legal case in the International Court of Justice (I.C.J.) about the crash of El Al flight 402. Documents in the file include minutes of a meeting between the British and American teams working on the case -- a list of information that the Foreign Office legal team wished to have to make their case -- a letter containing a summary of the plane's British pilot's Royal Air Force record -- and correspondence discussing whether to ask the I.C. J. for an extension to the deadline for the submission of the British Memorial on the case. Subjects discussed in the file include legal advice on the obligations of states with regard to trespassing aircraft -- the nationality of the victims and claimants covered by the British interest in the case -- and the activities of the United States State Department lawyer on the case, who was searching for additional evidence.
