Summary note
A file containing documents concerning financial claims against the Soviet Union and the Baltic states. The file includes a report on preliminary talks between Soviet and British officials about settling financial claims between the two countries -- a discussion of settling the Soviet government's default on payments for the purchase of Tetiuhe Mining Corporation and Lena Goldfields Limited -- and a letter from the Latvian Legation in London commenting on an article of the 1920 Latvian-Soviet Peace Treaty concerning financial claims. Other documents include a record of a meeting between representatives of the Treasury, the Foreign Office, the Bank of England, and the Enemy Property Branch to discuss drafting an Order in Council to register claims against Baltic assets -- a record of a Parliamentary Question concerning the Order in Council concerning Baltic assets -- and a discussion of claims relating to the territory ceded by Czechoslovakia to the Soviet Union after the Second World War.
