Miniature, octagonal copy of the Qur'ān for use as an amulet.
Notes
  • Binding: Bound in thin red leather over card, cut in an octagonal shape with a gilt stamped, teardrop-shaped medallion with a flower motif, and gilt frame. Spine is loose from covers, but has been repaired by paper hinges from the doublure. Endbands in white and blue stripe in chevron pattern.
  • Decoration: First opening has dual page illuminations of flowers in red, blue, and gold around al-Fātiḥah and the beginning of al-Baqarah (f. 1v-2r). On all other pages, the textblock has a cirucular border rule in gold, black, blue; sūrah titles are in gold ink; verse endings marked by a gold dot.
  • Foliation: Western numeral foliation in pencil added, upper left recto; no catchwords.
  • Layout: 19 long lines, border-ruled.
  • Ms. codex.
  • Origin: Probably copied in the mid-18th to mid-19th century.
  • Script: Written in naskh using black ink; pointed and vocalized.
  • Title supplied by cataloger.
