Summary note
Miniature, octagonal Qurʼān, nearly complete, likely used as an amulet. The leaves were probably numbered when the copy was out of order; then it was rebound in the correct order, causing the foliation to be out of sequence. The first two leaves are missing, the text starts with verse 19 of al-Baqarah (2:19).
Notes
Binding: Brown leather over card with gilt-stamped diaper grid and frame; painted grid with floral designs in the center on the pastedowns.
Decoration: Rubrications in red including sūrah titles; readings in red; verse ending marked by a red dot.
Foliation: Contemporary foliation in Hindu-Arabic numerals in ink, in the following sequence: 3-97, 121-122, 113-120, 110-112, 123-145, 98-109, 146-249.
Layout: 19 long lines.
Manuscript codex.
Origin: The colophon is unclear in several places, but the copy was completed in Rajab, perhaps in the year 1220? A.H. by Quṭb ibn Munajjid? Sunbulī?. This is the 40th copy of the Qurʼān that this scribe has produced (f. 249v).
Script: Written in ghubar; pointed, vocalized.
