In various ways, the authors of these periods take up, transform, and supplement the traditional data and adapt it to new social, politic, and cultural contexts. Ancient knowledge, in zoology as in other sciences, becomes the subject of Christian discourse, which mainly develops a hermeneutic of this tradition (more than of the natural world directly) especially attentive to its moral and symbolic implications. The present volume brings together eight case studies on this process originally presented at an international conference of the Zoomathia research network held at University of Trier in October 2019. The papers discuss Greek, Latin, and Arabic texts that cover a timespan that starts with the Physiologus (2nd century CE) and Solinus (3rd century CE) and ends with al-Marwaz (12th century CE) and Bartholomew of Messina (13th century)."-- |cPage 4 of cover. 650 0 Zoology |xHistory |yTo 1500 |vCongresses. 650 0 Zoology |vPre-Linnean works |vCongresses. 650 0 Philosophy and science |xHistory |vCongresses. 650 0 Religion and science |xHistory |vCongresses. 650 0 Science, Ancient |vCongresses. 650 0 Science, Medieval |vCongresses. 650 6 Zoologie |vOuvrages prélinnéens |vCongrès. 650 6 Philosophie et sciences |xHistoire |vCongrès. 650 6 Religion et sciences |xHistoire |vCongrès. 650 6 Sciences anciennes |vCongrès. 650 6 Sciences médiévales |vCongrès. 650 7 Philosophy and science |2fast 650 7 Religion and science |2fast 650 7 Science, Ancient |2fast 650 7 Science, Medieval |2fast 650 7 Zoology |2fast 648 7 To 1500 |2fast 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings |2fast 655 7 History |2fast 700 1 Hellmann, Oliver, |eeditor. |4edt 700 1 Zucker, Arnaud, |eeditor. |4edt 830 0 AKAN-Einzelschriften ; |vBd. 14. 902 010002796 |wcopy |120240125095841.0 910 Harrassowitz bibliographic data with order information |b559 |dE 914 (OCoLC)on1381750644 |bOCoLC |cmatch |d20240501 |eprocessed |f1381750644 960 |q07-06-23 |weng |xgw |zUSD 961 |ihar230123395 980 |g1 |h03E9994 |vHarr 981 32.31
