Summary note
Describes Jewish life in the town of Dukla (southeastern Poland), where ca. 1,200 Jews lived in 1939. Pp. 110-160 relate events from the German occupation in September 1939; they include memoirs of Shternberg (b. 1924), an Orthodox Jew, and testimonies of other residents. Despite their persecution and humiliation, they were determined to maintain religious practices. Most of the Jews were expelled from the town shortly after the occupation, including Shternberg and his father, who fled to Soviet-controlled territory. His mother and two brothers did not manage to get out in time and remained in Dukla. Describes the suffering of the Jews in Dukla and their deportation in summer 1942 to various camps, where most of them were killed, including Shternberg's mother and brothers. (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism - The Hebrew University of Jerusalem)
