Description: The logbooks of two English ships, the Snow Pennie and the Snow Mercury, under the command of Lord Hope, from Nov. 1765 to Oct. 1766. The first half of the volume contains the official record of the Snow Pennie's voyage across the Atlantic Ocean from Bristol to Hampton, Va., via Lisbon, Madeira, Martinique, and St. Eustatius, and the return trip on board the Snow Mercury from New York City to Bristol. Recorded are mostly remarks on weather conditions and the ports of call including various islands in the West Indies and southern colonial cities. The second half of the volume contains descriptive and historical notes concerning the West Indies and the American colonies along the eastern coastline. The final section contains a table of latitude and longitude calculations for locations worldwide.
