Description: A detailed account of daily events on the voyage and at the ship's winter quarters in the McMurdo Strait. Includes comments on animal and bird life (especially penguins), the climate, and habitats; and descriptions of several sledging expeditions, including an account of the Cape Crozier Expedition of March 1902, in which the author almost lost his life.
