Summary note
Description: The logbook for HMS Resolution on Cook's second voyage to circumnavigate the globe at the most southern point possible to prove or disprove the existence of a southern landmass. Includes logbooks by Midshipman William Harvey and third Lieutenant Richard Pickersgill. Pickersgill's logbooks include descriptions of 'remarkable occurrences' as well as navigational and meteorological information. He describes the landscapes and vegetation of islands visited, and describes a number of encounters with indigenous peoples involving the trade of fruit and meat for beads, nails, cloth. Includes a list of places seen, their longitudes and latitudes and whether or not they are inhabited.
