Joe Medicine Crow and Winona Plenty-Hoops along with fellow tribal members, imparted to the author many of the details recorded in this volume. Among such details, one name often mentioned was that of "Alapooish" or Sore-Belly, the greatest Crow war-chief of all. It was Sore-Belly who raised the Crows to the ascendency they once achieved on the Northern High Plains. Here for the first time, is a true and comprehensive account of the great Chief and his deeds.
