    This book provides a state-by-state view of the United States. The book provides rankings of states for key demographic and economic indicators, providing a quick analysis of the performance of each state in relation to other states. The book also includes a chapter for each state, complete with tables and figures that summarize and illustrate demographic and economic characteristics. Each of the state chapters is organized as follows: population by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin (total population and average annual growth); marital status; households and housing characteristics (including financial characteristics); migration, origin, and language; median income and poverty status; health insurance coverage (by type and coverage); employment (employment status by demographic group, labor force, participation rates, employment, unemployment, average wages and salaries by industry, employment by family type); education (school enrollment, educational attainment, public school characteristics, educational indicators); voter participation (registration and participation in 2016 election by sex, race, and ethnicity); crime (number and rates of violent and property crime); and state government finance (revenues and expenditures by source).
