Summary note
  • After the success of his first novel, Federico Carreño must write a second work that consolidates him as an author, or at least that is what his editor has asked him to do. The problem is that nothing has occurred to him since Testament. When he decided to enter it for the First Novel Prize of Editorial Meñique, he thought that he would not win; however, he was appreciated for his prose both urgent and precise and, above all, for the subject: the story of his own sexual abuse. It will be almost impossible to overcome it, because, as you know very well, in Testament you will find the best version of your own life. To get away from all the distractions and overcome his blockages, the young writer decides to take refuge in El Arenal, a group of just four properties located on a lost beach in Mexico. In that forgotten place of civilization, the borders between the real and the illusory are blurred, while the hidden ghosts of the past bifurcate with strange events that border on the dreamlike, and it is there that Federico will not only face a crisis of creativity, but to the truth that the author of the book that marked its existence has not been him. Lisa Owen involves us in a plot in which the mysteries follow one another and where the limits between what is true and what is false take on a new meaning in fiction. An impeccable mise en abyme configured with an enveloping and brutal prose.
