Summary note
A collection of invitations, flyers and posters produced by Ulises Carrión publicizing events at his Amsterdam bookstore (which was converted into an archive in 1979) from 1975 to 1984. The artists, authors, and curators featured include very influential figures such as Allan Kaprow, Guy Schraenen, Dorothy Iannone, Richard Kostelanetz, and Jackson Mac Low. In the course of its four year existence, Other Books and So hosted a large number of shows related to bookworks, mail art and conceptual art. Carrión's vibrant schedule presented artists from countries such as Brazil, Japan, Mexico, France, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Argentina, Colombia, etc. This collection also includes materials related to Carrión's solo exhibitions, such as 'Grammatica(s)' (1974), and his later artworks such as 'Namen en adressen,' 'Van kunstenaarsboeken tot postkunst,' and 'Lilia Prado Superstar Film Festival.' Several pieces of ephemera related to presentations of Carrión's video and film works in the 1980s round out the collection. The material in Binder 1 was acquired in 2020, with a second set of material acquired in 2021 comprising binder 2. Taken together, the exhibition flyers and postcards document a substantial majority of the exhibitions held at Other Books and So between 1975 and 1978.
Language note
Text primarily in English, with some Dutch and French.
