Summary note
Description: This series consists of 38 postcards, 3 postcard packets, and 23 letters, to John Shaddinger. The bulk of the correspondence was sent by Shaddinger's mother, Margaret, in New Orleans, Louisiana, but there are also letters from his father, Irwin, and brother, David. Also included are letters from his friends. Within the series are several New Orleans postcards as well as humorous postcards from a friend who is also in the service. Among general correspondence, Shaddinger's brother reports that their father is also joining the Navy.;Personal correspondence from the service of Torpedoman's Mate Second Class John Shaddinger, who served on the USS Mississippi (BB-41) and USS Bushnell (AS-15) in the Pacific Theater of Operations. The collection is arranged into three series: I. Personal correspondence from John Shaddinger, 1942 and 1944; II. Personal correspondence to John Shaddinger, 1942-1945; and III. Postcards.
